Divine Messengers
by Sri Swami ChidanandaIt is Knowledge of Self which helps man to attain that state of eternal satisfaction or Nitya Tripti which is the Swarupa or Moksha. But for Self-knowledge Moksha will be impossible. And Self-knowledge itself will be impossible of attainment, but for those Divine Messengers who throw light on the path of our lives.
It is impossible to weigh the deep debt of gratitude we owe to these Divine Messengers who bring balance and sanity to a world which gets into pitiful imbalance every now and then. Whenever true knowledge, spiritual knowledge, begins to vanish from the face of the earth, and tends to lapse into oblivion, the Divine Messengers revive that knowledge and nourish it with the vitality of their own inner experience. If Vyasa wrote the Prasthana Traya, the eighteen Puranas and the Bhagawata, it was for this purpose only. Bharatavarsha is what it is today only because of the great sage Vyasa, the Avatar of Vishnu, and the great Brahma Vidya Gurus who followed him. The life-aim of Divine Messengers like Sri Aurobindo and our Gurudev is the same, viz. to bring back once again the Divine Knowledge which God Himself gave at the beginning of creation through Chaturmukha Brahma. These Divine Messengers seek to awaken man to the knowledge of his real heritage.

BOOK SYNOPSIS
Guru Tattva
By Swami SivanandaIn spite of much that has been written on the concept of a spiritual Guru, there is still a good deal of confusion, misunderstanding, and skepticism in the public mind on this vital matter.
Is a Guru absolutely necessary? Who is a Satguru? How far can he help his Chela (disciple)? What are the duties of a disciple? What is the meaning of Initiation? Want of clear-cut and definite answers to these and related questions often impedes the spiritual progress of earnest aspirants.
Under the circumstances, the present book by Satguru Sivanandaji Maharaj should come as a boon to many. Within its pages, the reader will find an authoritative, succinct and bold elucidation of the entire subject of Guru-disciple relationship.
We have great pleasure in releasing this book for the benefit of spiritually thirsty men and women all over the world. May the blessings of the Lord and the Brahma-Vidya Gurus be upon all!For more information, please see: Guru Tattva

SHARING WITH ALL: A devotee discovered that the Master liked a particular type of South Indian sweetmeat, a kind of milk preparation. So she prepared this sweetmeat and, having packed it nicely, brought it to the Master all the way from Bombay. With great devotion she bowed and offered the preparation to him and stood at his side.
The Master asked someone to open the packet and, noticing the contents, said, “Oh! Very good, very good.”
There were some visitors from South India. He turned to them and said, “These must have come for you only; they arrived at the right time.”
He requested the sweetmeat to be passed round. First the man got a share, then his wife and children and others, until there was hardly any left for the Master himself. The lady who had brought the sweets was almost in tears. Someone noticed this and gave the Master a hint.
The Master quickly called out to the person distributing the sweets, “Bring it here, I am going to eat it.”
The lady’s face blossomed, but not for long! The Master took only a spoonful and again handed it to be distributed. He always found great joy in distributing whatever he received, especially food.
“Because the Guru is a soul, he never dies. We will never say, 'My Guru died; I have nobody now.' This is not intelligible to us. The Guru can never die, because the Guru is not the body. Nor is the chela a body. Now we come to the other side of it. Neither is the chela the body, nor is the Guru the body, and the relationship between Guru and chela is not a bodily relationship. So even if the Guru is a thousand miles away, the chela is happy. He is not bothered. He will not cry, 'Oh, my Guru is far away. I have nobody.' Distance is wiped out in the spiritual field. There is no distance in the world, really speaking. Distance is only a spatial concept. When even television and radio have wiped out distance, do you think that consciousness—the soul—cannot wipe it out? It can, and it does. Though this is a very advanced state, it is the truth of things. The disciple and the Guru are related in a mystical manner, and that relationship continues even after the death of the body.” – Swami Krishnananda
