Sadhana Week at Sivananda Ashram Headquarters

Sadhana Week began on Monday 14 July 2003 and will conclude on Sunday 20 June 2003. During Gurudev Swami Sivanandaji’s lifetime, Sadhana Week was a regular feature of the ashram functions and celebrations, offered to devotees coming from near and far.

Every year, a large number of devotees comes to the Ashram for Guru Purnima, and the subsequent one-week Sadhana Shibir, a spiritual retreat. This year, one thousand five hundred devotees have registered for Sadhana Shibir!

The retreat programme starts with Early Morning Meditation and Satsang. Revered Swami Nirliptananda leads the morning meditation in a specially erected pandal, or big tent, from 5 a.m. to 6.15. Following meditation, one may listen to further instructions on sadhana, spiritual practices. Participants to the retreat then have the option to attend either the yoga asana class or join in the prabhat pheri, devotional singing led by the swamis of the ashram.

Every day, senior swamis give a variety of discourses. Included each morning the General Secretary, Revered Swami Jivanmuktanandaji elucidates the symbolic meaning of the Bhagavad Gita and how the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita can help sadhakas, householders, and sannyasins in the battle of life. Revered Swami Premanandaji Maharaj, Swami Yogaswarupanandaji Maharaj, and many other revered swamis share the great spiritual teachings of Yoga and Vedanta with the devotess.

Eminent spiritual dignitaries have been invited as guest teachers every afternoon. On the first day, The Mahamandaleshwar of Kailash Ashram in Rishikesh His Holiness Swami Vidyanananda Giri, gave a spiritual discourse in Sanskrit, which was translated into Hindi and English. A saint, Swami Hamsananda from Swargashram, Rishikesh gave a beautiful darshan and discourse.

The Sivananda Audi-Visual featured video talks of His Holiness Swami Chidanandaji and His Holiness Swami Krishnanandaji. In the evening, a Krishna Lila Drama Troup brings to life and performs the beautiful religious tales of ancient and medieval India. Every day is comprised of a full roster of spiritual programme.
